Week 11: Why doesn't my brother like Wendy's?

Why doesn’t my brother like Wendy’s?  I don’t know.  I can’t ever remember eating there myself and mentioned that I was going to stop there for dinner tonight.  Why not try the place out?  My brother warned me not to go there!  He said it was horrible!  He doesn’t like Wendy’s at all.  Why not, though?  Is their food bad?  He didn’t say that.  He just said he didn’t like the place.

Now I guess on some fishing trips with our father he’s always had to stop there and get Dear ol’ Dad some Wendy’s chili.  Is this why he doesn’t like the place?  I guess my dad loves the chili!  So why not try the place out for myself.

I figured I’d try eating there especially because I refuse to let anyone else tell me what I like, or don’t like!  Now don’t suggest I go to McDonald’s, I don’t like that place.  I haven’t eaten at a McDonald’s in years and think the food there is pretty nasty!  Bleaugh!  But other burger places have been pretty good.

I really like Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers.  I’ve eaten there a few times and their French fries are fantastic!  Instead of going to Freddy’s though, I thought I’d try someplace new.  Maybe Wendy’s would be just as good, if not better?  Worth a shot in my opinion!  If you’re curious, here’s the link to Freddy’s:

One of the other places I like is In N Out Burger.  I know that’s a West Coast kind of thing.  Their burgers are fantastic!  The fries there are good too, but still not as good as Freddy’s.

Anyway, it was off to Wendy’s for me!  I wasn’t after chili like my dad likes, I wanted a burger and fries!  The burgers at Wendy’s are supposed to be fresh and not frozen.  So are they tasty being fresh?  I was ready to find out!

Once I got there, a friendly cashier guy greeted me.  Looking up at the menu I found something called the Bacconator!  That sounded good!  Kind of like a Terminator, but with bacon!  I ordered a Bacconator meal so I would get to try the fries and also get a drink.  I received a large cup and made my way over to where I could get my drink.  It was just one machine.  Looking it over, it had a touch screen and you could select from a huge amount of drinks!  Very efficient and fun!  I selected something called “Dave’s Cherry Cream Soda”.  It was quite delicious!  And just as I finished filling up my drink, my food was ready!  Very quick service!

And so here is what I got with my meal (minus the drink).

I’m quite happy to say the Bacconator was VERY GOOD!  I was quite pleased with my meal!  I have no clue why my brother doesn’t like the place!  Pick your own drink, get fantastic food, what’s not to like?  And so I will be going back to Wendy’s again in the future with or without my brother.  Maybe Dad will come along and get some chili?  Either way, I did like the place.  The fries weren’t as good as Freddy’s, but the Bacconator definitely was great!

Week 6: Why did I miss winter?

I’m one of those people who likes cold much more than heat.  Sadly, I ended up living in the desert.  Needless to say, I’m happiest every year during winter time and not as happy during summer.  I waited all year for winter to finally get here and things just haven’t been to my liking this year!

In a way, I feel a bit odd writing this blog today when so many of my friends are digging themselves out from under a huge amount of snow.  I didn’t get any snow this year, though.  As a matter of fact, my heat barely ever even came on this winter!  Now yes this does sound like I’m whining about something that I shouldn’t be whining about, but I feel cheated out of my winter!

The last several days here it’s been around 70 degrees.  For you Europeans who like Celsius, that’s about 21 degrees Celsius.  I understand that I live in the desert, but it’s still supposed to get at least a little cold here during the winter!  Now it just seems to be getting warmer and warmer each day!  Where’s my damned winter?

Now I’m going to spend most of the rest of the year waiting for winter again!  Before I know it, it’s going to be 118 degrees again! (That would be 47 Celsius.)  I’ll be back to driving around thinking I’m driving an oven!  I hate summer, bleagh! 

Ok, I know this was short, pointless, and whiny, but that’s my why for this week.  Why do I not get the cold while other people who would be happy to be out lying in their yard in 70 degrees are wondering where their yard went under all the snow?

We’ll see what I question next week.  Keep asking why!

Week 3: Why can I not understand the Star Wars accents?

I’ve loved the original Star Wars movies since I was a kid and first saw them in a theater.  And as I got older I began to notice that the Evil Empire people had English accents and the good guy Rebels had American accents.  After watching some of the films over again and also watching the newest “The Force Awakens”, I am now really confused about the accents.

Ok yes some of the Evil Empire officers had the English accent, but all the Stormtroopers seem to be American.  How did that work?  You don’t hear many Stormtroopers actually talk in the movies, but when they did, it sounded American.  Darth Vader sounded American.  He was a huge Empire bad guy!  Why didn’t he sound English?

I’ve played an online game about Star Wars and when you create your character, all the Empire side characters sound English and the Rebel characters sound American.  Want to be a Jedi?  Your character sounds American.  Want to be an evil Sith?  Your character sounds English.  Shouldn’t we have a few Empire characters with a German accent?  Wouldn’t that be more appropriate?

And while I’m on the subject of Germans, why do so many Nazis in the movies have an English accent?  The Nazis were NOT ENGLISH!  Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to make movies where Germans weren’t played by German actors?  The world is so baffling to me sometimes!

Anyway, back to Star Wars.  Han Solo sounds American.  Of course he’s a smuggling pirate.  Or is he?  Some people will argue that he’s a hero.  Maybe he is a hero, but he was still a pirate.  And of course since he ends up joining the rebels, he has an American accent.  Princess Leia has an American accent…sort of.  *chuckle*

One of my favorite actors in the Star Wars movies only has one line.  I honestly don’t know who he is, but I remember him saying, “You Rebel scum!” just before they blow him away.  American accent.  What the hell?  Now I’m losing track of things. 

Now I’m watching The Force Awakens and the main character of Rey has an English accent.  She becomes part of the “Rebels”.  “Finn”  or FN-2187 is part of the “First Order” and has an American accent.  What happened to the Stormtroopers?  Why are there no Stormtroopers now?  I’m not sure I like changes like that!  You don’t just get rid of Empire Stormtroopers! 

In the “Prequels” the mercenary Jango Fett had an English accent.  Actually his accent was from New Zealand.  Could the English people who watched the movie tell he wasn’t English from his accent?  And again, why is one of the bad guys speaking with an English accent?  Or New Zealand accent?  I’m quickly losing track of things now!

I give up.  It’s taking too much energy now to try and sort out the Star Wars accents, let alone the new plot line.  I need to go back to when I was a kid and didn’t question how people spoke as much.
